Pass the Xanax

My mom has colon cancer.

Just like that. I talked to her Tuesday and she had been sick to her stomach--doctor poked all around and said it was a stomach virus--sends her home. Today, her belly is distended so they give her the CT at Bronson at 6:30 p.m. At 9:00 my sister called and said "Mom has colon cancer."

FRICK. I don't know much about colon cancer; the two people I know who have had it have passed away. I don't like that percentage that is for sure. Tomorrow she will be having surgery--her bowel is obstruction by the mass and the doctor said her colon is in pretty bad shape...he did say that he treats it by surgery and I guess no chemo or radiation. But Ginger's mom, Iva, had to have chemo, etc because when hers was found it had spread. Who know with my mom. She hadn't gone to the doctor for 30 years --until about 5 years ago. Never had a colonoscopy. FRICK.

This is so strange to me. I am more emotionally affected by this than my own cancer.

I guess I need to do some reading. Please pray that surgery goes well and that it hasn't spread. I know you will and I thank you.

Molly,
I am sitting here trying to think what to say. This just really sucks, my heart aches for you. They will be able to tell you more from the path report of the lymph nodes. Troy's dad had a bowel resection. They had to remove a large section of the bowel and he had to have a colostomy bag. The bag was not really a big deal. He got use to it and adjusted to it quickly. Not everyone has to have one and sometimes they are only temporary. His had spread and he also had chemo, but no radiation. I am not sure why he did not have radiation-maybe it does not respond well to it? I hope they caught your moms early. Troy's dad ignored symptoms for about 10months and then was diagnosed with a hernia and had hernia repair surgery. After that surgery he was still having problems and had a colonoscopy and the next day he had a bowel resection. We will be praying for your family. I pray her surgery goes well. I can't even imagine the emotions you must be feeling. You are such a strong person, you will get through this. Your mom is so lucky to have you by her side, being her advocate. Hang in there Molly. Just in case anyone forgot cancer SUCKS!! We will be thinking about you and praying for a good outcome.

Molly,

I'm sorry to hear about your mon and she will be in my prayers. I hope the doctors can take care of everything with surgery. Like Troy's dad, my dad also had to have part of the bowel removed and the colostomy bag really wasn't a big deal. Just want you to know I'm thinking about you and your family (especially your mom).

Love,
Beth A.

P.S. Cancer more than sucks!

Hi Molly,

I did a search for Ava's blog on Google and your's also popped up(Since you wrote about her!) Anyway, Pam was in Service League with me last year and I have had heard alot about you and your journey. I am so sad to hear about your Mom's diagnosis! I can't even imagine what else is running through your head besides "FRICK!" I am sitting here thinking, "what more can this woman take?" From what I hear and have read on your blog..you are a strong, caring woman....I know you will all get through this too. Just stay strong, keep the faith and God will see you through. Much love & prayers,
